The Observer recorded: He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Lamont of Raceview Broughshane.
Sgt. Lamont was accidentally killed on September 19. He had been in the army for almost five years.
"Two years ago he returned to England after a spell of duty in Palestine. Before joining the army he was employed in Mr. R. White's scutch mill at Kenbally, Broughshane.
"A poignant feature is that on Friday, the day after his parents had been notified of his death, came a letter from him - the last he ever wrote. In it he stated he was going to France and that if it was the will of God that he should lose his life he hoped to meet his father and mother in heaven."
